SUMMER SCHEDULE: JULY 13TH-AUG 23rd



TODDLER ARTS: (ages 18 months-3 years)
Children and their parent/caregiver will work together to create unique pieces of art to bring home. Focus will be on providing a nurturing environment for toddlers to experiment with new materials and techniques and gain confidence in their abilities. Painting, playdough, and crafts will be set up at different stations and children will work at their own pace, moving from station to station. Books, puzzles, and legos will also be available. 
Monday and Friday 10 and 11. 
$20 for drop ins, or $110 for 6 weeks.

ALL AGES DROP IN: 
Families can drop by anytime and work at their own pace at different stations to create whatever they like. Projects from toddler classes and camps will be introduced, and painting, playdough, books, puzzles, and legos will be available.
Tuesday and Thursday 4-6, 
Sunday 10-12 
$20, plus $10 for each sibling over 18 months. Children 4 and older may be dropped off for 1 hour for an additional $5.

SUMMER CAMP:(ages 4-8) 
Each week will focus on a different exciting art theme, and we will work together on projects as well as looking at examples of artists work, going to the playground, and having free art and play time.

PERFORMANCE ART: (ages 4-8) 
Through movement, sound, puppetry, and creative costuming, children will create short individual and group works of performance art. Contemporary video art will be discussed and used as a backdrop for performances. The group will work together, drawing on personal experience, to create a fabulous NYC inspired performance.
Monday 2-5
$300 for 6 weeks

AFTERNOON ARTS:(ages 3-8) 
Each week we will work on projects which are based on the theme of the summer camp that is currently happening, as well as having free art time for the kids to experiment with their own ideas.
Wednesday 4-5:30 
$30 per week, $160 for 6 weeks.

MUSIC FOR AARDVARKS:(ages 6 months to 5 yrs)
Families will enjoy an active and fun filled musical experience while learning adorable songs about growing up in the city.

SUMMER CAMP DESCRIPTIONS

Camps are 3 days per week: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 9am-3pm. Sign up for 1-6 weeks, $300/week. Camps will be taught by Samara Kupferberg, Bianca Beck, and Rebecca Gilbert, who are all working artists with many years of experience teaching art to children.Limited to 8 students per week, we will spend our time working at the studio and out on our deck, going to the playground/sprinklers and taking field trips to museums and gardens. 

FIBER ARTS July 14-16
Students will create artworks with touchable, textural fibers of many
kinds, as well as experiment with natural dyes and felting. Students
will discover the great variety of materials which fall into the
category of fiber, and see what can be done with them. Traditional and
contemporary fiber art and artists will be looked at and discussed.

THE FREELY MADE July 21-23
The mark, the stroke, the brush, the drip -- the motions of art making
created the movement of Abstract Expressionism. Students will explore
the materiality of paint, a variety of tools for its application, and
a number of painting surfaces. We will discuss the topics of
composition and inspiration; and students will be encouraged to speak
about their artworks and to share their observations and thoughts. We
will be looking at the work of artists such as Franz Kline and Joan
Mitchell. This class will take a field trip to the Museum of Modern Art.

ORDINARY TO EXTRAORDINARY July 28-30
Children are often inspired by the idea of making art
out of and about everyday and found objects. In this class students
will learn about many forms of folk art and create artworks that
incorporate and transform themes and materials from their everyday
lives. Projects will include making a pet portrait, creating a button
mosaic, and starting a found object collection. This class will take a
field trip to The American Folk Art Museum.

SPIRIT OF FLUXUS August 4-6
The Fluxus artists of the 1960's saw art and artist and life and
audience as continuous. This is an intermedia class where students
will collaborate, experiment, and play with sound, movement, poetry,
collage, and assemblage. We will be looking at the work and ideas of
artists such as Yoko Ono and Allan Kaprow.

3-D CONSTRUCTIONS August 11-13
Transforming wood, clay, recycled, found, and natural objects, we will
create the elements of an imaginary world with everything from wheels
to wings. Techniques of paper folding, gluing, and construction will
be developed. Both abstract and representational work will be
encouraged. We will look at the work of artists such as Claes
Oldenburg, Andy Goldsworthy, and Martin Puryear.

TO NOTICE THINGS August 18-20
Working with paint, charcoal, graphite, salt ceramic, and more,
students will observe the world around them and translate it into two
and three dimensional works of art. Students will work from
photographic images, still-lifes and models as well as work outside on
our deck and during outings to local sites. We will be looking at the
work of artists such as John James Audubon and Auguste Rodin.
This class will take a field trip to The Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
